QHAPAQ ÑAN
The Ancestral Route to Cusco — Capital of the Inca Empire
Ultra Machupicchu by ITS (UM) 2026 is a high-altitude trail running ultramarathon in Cusco, Peru, inspired by the Qhapaq Ñan—the legendary Inca road system that once connected the Andes under Tawantinsuyo.
In this edition, we run a specific ancestral corridor: the route that linked Antisuyu to Cusco, the capital of the empire, and historically connected Cusco with Machu Picchu. You won’t just race a course—you’ll move through a living legacy of stone paths, mountain passes, Sacred Valley terrain, and Andean history.
This is why many runners describe the experience as “Inca Trail” spirit: not a label, but a meaning—running on ancestral Inca routes with a finish that honors the heart of the Andes: Cusco.
